Some true seeds of Digital Vinyl Recordings
Radionic: Did you guys plan the labels concept years ago, or did it just make sense recently to spawn this new label idea and concept?
Digital Vinyl: The seed for DVR was initially conceptualized around 2004 and actually saw the light of day in 2005. After the initial success and some beers at WMC
it then spawned a couple of other massive projects including the soon to be launched DigitalVinylDownloads .com and a future sub-label which is in the works revolving around the same theme as the original concept and it will be called DigitalWaxTrax .com.
R: I know there is a common theme here but what is the single driving element for the label’s concept?
DV: Besides the release of the original core artist’s material, the releasing of unknown or future up-and-coming music that we think should be heard is what DVR is all about.
R: There is a certain look and feel to the releases; do you have someone behind the cover art?
DV: The graphics behind the label are an outlet for my art degree and a direct extension of my graphics company: Target Market Concepts and Designs. Also, one of our favorite artists, SteReO from Germany, who is an amazing remixer/artist in his own right, contributes to the graphics of the label whenever we are graced by one of his releases. In addition, I feel the need to mention Blukid (Blukid .com) who was an integral part of our new websites design and feel.
R: Typically how long does a project take to create, and finalize.
DV: Depending on what it is, a remix project or an original track, anywhere from a week to never!
R: Does the digital download nature make this then strictly a digital release?
DV: DVR itself has thus far been a digital only label including special promo CD’s and of course downloads.
R: As most of my peers know, I preach on and on endlessly about pressing vinyl singles, are there any valid reasons to still press some of your titles on wax?
DV: Vinyl itself is a valid reason to put things on wax! I am a die hard vinyl lover to this day (several thousand in my collection) and could go on forever about vinyl (see my comments on “Resident Advisor” about the subject at residentadvisor.net . It will always have a place in certain markets including ours. After all, it is in the name itself!
R: Are there plans or notions of releasing some exclusive vinyl editions, like a greatest or best mixes for the label?
DV: Our intention to release vinyl is always there, it is just a matter of timing and finances. I would love to see someone white label bootleg our stuff as long as it is credited properly…Any takers? I know I would buy it!
R: What would your reaction be if you walk into a disco/club randomly and you hear one of your current singles getting spun?
DV: Same as it has been since the first time it happened…Grins from ear to ear! The craziest experience was when we were in a Miami strip club and walked into the main area and there is a hottie getting down on a pole to one of our songs! Hearing it on the radio and or TV is really cool too.
R: Tell me some about the amount of rotations or charting the label has been getting lately?
DV: The beauty of the web is that you can reach a DJ in Germany or China just as easily as one in your own backyard. We obviously get support in Miami and the rest of Florida (our home base), but also as far west as Texas and Cali and as previously mentioned, places you wouldn’t expect like Romania!
R: Do you have any certain goals of awareness for the label?
DV: The most important thing for us is to be heard and enjoyed by all who will listen and eventually earn the respect and appreciation for what we are trying to introduce into the scene from the major players.
R: What is the one common theme that the label’s focus is all about?
DV: We don’t want to be known for one common thing if it wills pigeon-hole us into a certain genre, but being known for releasing great club/lounge music from chill to thrill would be ok with us.
Thank you to Radionic and the “CraterTech†crew for their time and consideration!
Feel free to enjoy the music to the fullest…but PLEASE support the artists and DJs…Get your friends to buy a copy, not copy/download yours! PEACE!
