BSTC – Music for a Saturday Evening
Releasing on All Natural Inc. mid Nov. 2008
Soulful danceable tunes seem to all the rage or at least they are back in fashion. Taking a 21st century tour of the past grooves and club movers pours out a lively jam CD. The cuts are sticky new-disco numbers that have the vintage soulful edge and the flavour of a fine wine. Tracks like “Venus and Mars/Fly Away†sparkle with a tight dubbed out bassline and tight drum hooks. The sexy female vocals added in are by Keanna H. Johnson aka Kee Kee Rose. Chic meets the new millennium, this is a release Quincy Jones and Nile Rodgers would be giving some thumbs up. There are real drums, synths, horns and guitar, making up a full rounded band. Short for Black Stone Theatre Collective, their name pays homage to a historic performing art theatre in Chicago. Every bit of it is lovely; the only thing missing is the sound of butterflies. The tracks play out like a classy themed party…uptown or downtown, they will turn you mind around to the once hated word Disco! I’m already trying to find this release on vinyl. Reviewed by Radionic
